Gymnophiona: Ichthyophiidae - Fish Caecilians
The Fish Caecilians range from India to southern China, Thailand, and the Malayan Archipelago, and the Philippines. There are two genera with about 30 species. Eggs are deposited in mud, near water, the female attends the eggs, and upon hatching, the larvae leave the nest on land and enter the water. The larvae remain larvae for a few weeks to a few years. The larvae have fins, but these are lost in the adults. These animals have a distinct tail, unlike some other caecilians.
