| Mexican Treefrog, Smilisca baudinii (Duméril and Bibron, 1841). Photographed in Cayo, Belize. This is a Central American frog that ranges from extreme southern Texas and southern Sonora southward into the tropical lowlands to Costa Rica. It is extremely abundant. Adult females reach 90 mm, adult males reach 75 mm in body length. The Mexican Treefrog will use forest, forest-edge, and savanna environments. It is an explosive breeder after the first rains, but some males continue to call (and some females continue to lay eggs) through the wet season |

| Burrowing Treefrog, Smilisca fodiens (Boulenger, 1882). Photo taken in southern Arizona. Note that this frog has been previously placed in the genus Pternohyla. This frog inhabits deserts and arid grasslands from south-central Arizona southward along the coastal plain to central Mexico. Much of its time is spent underground and it surfaces only to reproduce after heavy rains. |

| Tarraco Treefrog, Smilisca phaeota (Cope, 1862). Photographed in northeastern Costa Rica. Occurs from the Caribbean lowlands of Central America ( eastern Honduras, and Nicaragua to northwestern Colombia). And the Pacific lowlands of southeastern Costa Rica and eastern Panama southward into Colombia, and northwestern Ecuador. Adult females reach 78 mm, adult males reach 66 mm in body length. It inhabits forests, forest-edge, and savanna environments. |
