The Inland Bearded Dragon, Pogona vitticeps (Ahl, 1926) Photographs of captive animals. The Bearded Dragon is endemic to central Australia, and very popular in the pet trade. The body may reach 200 mm, and the tail may be 130% of the body length. Bearded Dragons are semi-arboreal, spending time on the ground, but also climbing into low vegetation. They use a variety of habitats ranging from desert and arid scrub to forests. Its diet is mostly insectivorous, but bearded dragons will also eat vegetation. Its popularity in the pet trade has resulted in its being bred for color and pattern variations. This species is well on its way to domestication. It has also been placed in the genus Amphibolurus in the past. |
