Adult body length reaches 130 mm, It is known only from New Caledonia and some of its satelite islands. Habitat is humid forests from sea level to 900 m, and it is frequently found on low growing shrubs or small trees.

Leach's Giant Gecko, Rhacodactylus leachianus (Cuvier, 1829). Photograph of a captive animal. Adult body size reaches 225 mm, and it has a very short tail (about 30% of the body). It is found on New Caledonia, the Isle of Pines and some of its satellites. It occurs in humid forests from sea level to at least 1100 m, and is a canopy dweller. It feeds on insects, lizards, and birds but seems to prefer fruit. The species is very vocal and produces barks and whistles. Eggs are laid in a nest on the ground.

Thick Tailed Gecko, Nephrurus milii (Bory de Saint-Vincent, 1825). Photograph of a captive animal. Adult body size reaches 80 mm. It inhabits southern Australia and uses wet coastal heathland, sclerophyll forests, and arid scrub. It is terrestrial, and forages on the ground at night. This lizard has also been placed in the genus Underwoodisaurus.

The Marbled Velvet Gecko, Oedura marmorata Gray, 1842. Photograph of a captive animal. Adult body size to 90 mm. Occurs in eastern central and northern Australia, but is absent from northern Queensland. Inhabits savanna woodlands in the eastern and northern parts of the range, but inhabits spinifex and shrub covered hills in central Australia.

Lesueur's Velvet Gecko, Oedura lesueurii (Dumeril and Bibron, 1836). Photograph of a captive animal. Adult body size to 80 mm. Inhabits the coast and nearby ranges of New South Wales and southeastern Queensland, Australia. Often found in crevices, caves, or under exfoliating rocks.
