| The squeaking frogs and their relatives inhabit sub-Saharan Africa. There are two subfamilies following Frost et al. (2006), the Arthroleptinae with seven genera and 132 species, and the Leptopelinae with 51 species in a single genus, Leptopelis. The squeakers are the sister group to the Astylosternidae and shared an ancestor with them about 69 Ma (81-57 Ma). |
